The Strip features<\/strong> some of the world\u2019s most iconic buildings. Walking along<\/strong> the road is like travelling around the globe<\/strong>. You pass an Eiffel Tower of the Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, an Egyptian pyramid of the Luxor Resort & Casino, Venetian gondolas of The Venetian Resort Hotel and a Rome Colosseum of the Caesar\u2019s Palace. Other attractions include the dancing fountains of the Bellagio and a giant 550-foot<\/strong> ferris wheel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE MAFIA CONNECTION<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The mafia was very much responsible for\u00a0developing<\/strong>\u00a0the casino industry in Las Vegas in the 1940s. Legalised\u00a0gambling<\/strong>\u00a0and prostitution attracted organised crime syndicates from New York.\u00a0Notorious<\/strong>\u00a0gangster Bugsy Siegel started constructing the Flamingo, the city\u2019s first\u00a0major<\/strong>\u00a0resort and casino, in 1945. Some say that the name referred to his girlfriend, Virginia Hill, who had very long,\u00a0thin<\/strong>\u00a0legs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A BAD GAMBLE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Flamingo\u2019s budget was 1.5 million dollars, but the actual costs were more than six million dollars! Siegel\u2019s New York partners were not happy with that. Then the hotel started losing<\/strong> money, and closed temporarily in 1947. Siegel was given a second chance<\/strong> and made a desperate attempt<\/strong> to make it successful. It started to make a small profit, but it was not enough. Soon after<\/strong>, Siegel was shot to death<\/strong> at his house in Beverly Hills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Known as the \u2018Sin<\/strong> City\u2019, Las Vegas has something to offer everyone. However<\/strong>, most visitors come to gamble. The casinos earn<\/strong> hundreds of millions of dollars a month. Neon signs invite visitors to come in and spend<\/a>, spend<\/strong>, spend.
